Praise Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘WAP’ and how it has exposed racism and sexism (misogynoir) in the music industry
Here on Sextras we encourage slutty behaviour, and, that is to say, we encourage everyone to be sexually free and open. In this week’s segment we expose the sluttiest things you guys have done to remove some of the shame around the term ‘slut,’ and to show that everyone has sex, there’s literally nothing unusual about enjoying sex, despite what society might try to tell you.
We then dive into a heated conversation where we try to dismantle slut shaming and explain why it’s harmful to be sex negative and to have that opinion imposed on you. We touch on the hypocrisy of men constantly sexualising women, but then shaming them when they claim agency over their own sexuality. Slut is a term constantly used in the title of porn (which men watch!! and search for!!) yet it is still used to shame women for enjoying sex.
We end the episode by discussing the brilliance of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s music video for ‘WAP’ (Wet Ass Pussy) and how it’s a great encouragement for women and girls to claim pride in their sexuality and be unashamedly and freely sexual. We also talk about our ambivalence about it censoring the term ‘pussy,’ even though it has done an excellent job at exposing the sexism and racism in the music industry.
