Dating app fatigue? Try these tips from a Hinge expert

Hinge tells Lucy Sarret its As Soon As you Match tips to up your chances on dating apps.

If you’re anything like me, navigating the dating world can feel like a full-time job. Between endless swiping on Hinge and deciphering the intricacies of modern dating etiquette, it’s no wonder so many of us are experiencing dating app fatigue.

But there might be a hack to help you optimise your dating game. According to Hinge’s As Soon As you Match tips, you're 72% more likely to end up on a date if you respond to your match's first message within 24 hours. Forget the old-school three-day rule; it's time to embrace these changes and boost your dating game.

This summer, I decided to put these tips to the test. As someone who’s grown weary of the endless match-and-ghost cycle, I was eager to find a fresh approach.

Prompt responses are key

Hinge’s love and connection expert, Moe Ari Brown (he/they) tells Sextras mastering your Digital Body Language (DBL) can help you foster meaningful connections and navigate dating burnout.

“The most important thing to remember is to self-reflect on your own DBL and be aware of what signals you’re sending to potential dates,” Moe explains. “77% of Hinge daters believe DBL reveals a lot about a match’s interests. Understanding how to navigate this, from initiating the first conversation to being consistent with messaging, is crucial.”

Moe’s insights hit home for me. Reflecting on my own experiences, I realised how easy it is to misinterpret digital cues. Countless Hinge matches have felt pointless, as we both waited for the other to make the first move, and the conversation fizzled out or never even started. Moe’s advice to engage promptly and genuinely can make all the difference.

“Being aware of what signals you’re sending isn’t always easy to interpret,” Moe says. “Especially for Gen Z, who spend a lot of time online, understanding digital cues is crucial.”

As an extremely impatient and anxious girlie, I usually assume that a delayed response means disinterest and move on to the next, when they could just be having a busy day.

Moe offered practical tips for those frustrating moments when your match isn’t matching your texting expectations:

1. Don’t assume a lack of texting indicates a lack of interest. Communicate directly and pay attention to their actions and intentions.

2. Set expectations early about how often you wish to communicate.

3. Use positive reinforcement to let them know how much you enjoy hearing from them.

4. Encourage smaller, more frequent messages if long texts aren’t their thing.

In a study by Hinge, 44% of daters cited lack of responsiveness as a top dating challenge.

“Being left on read by people building up matches without continuing the conversation is a major factor in dating burnout”, Moe explains.

Quality over quantity

When dating starts to feel overwhelming, Moe also suggested focusing on a few matches at a time.

“Quality is more important than quantity. When we’re chatting with too many people, we can’t engage deeply, which often leads to burnout.”

Personally, this approach transformed my Hinge experience. By narrowing my focus, I was able to have more meaningful conversations and actually enjoy the process. Taking a break when needed also helped me recharge and return with a fresh perspective.

“If you need to take a break from dating, it’s okay to pause your profile and focus on other priorities,” Moe advises.

Navigating the dating scene can be daunting, but with these ASAM tips and Moe’s expert advice, finding love on Hinge this summer feels more achievable - and even helped me snag a few dates that never would have happened if I hadn’t applied their steps.

So, next time you match with someone, remember to be prompt, be genuine, and most importantly, enjoy the journey. Happy swiping!
